Glue

Another after-thought post. LOL.  When you dot your knots with glue, what do YOU use?  Also, when adding tatting to something else, do you use the same glue or a different glue?

Thank you!!!

Confession time, huh? LOL

When I choose to use 'glue' on a knot, I use FrayCheck. I've used it for many years and never had it change colors on me. I can't recall any items that I've added tatting to which required glue. I've done some Christmas balls, but the tatting was either laced on or pinned into place. I would probably lean toward one of the craft glues designed for both paper and fabric--usually purchased at a fabric store.

I have used fray check on a few knots where the thread broke, but I don't usually glue my knots. I usually sew my tatting to cards or other surfaces, so I'm afraid I can't help much with that part of your question. I'll be interested to see what other people write, though.

I use FrayCheck too but my little bottle (3/4 fl oz) is about to empty (lasted 3 years) and I could not find it locally again, so I bought a bottle of Fray Stoppa (by Helmar, Australia)but I have not used it yet. I have not glued tatting down before, I usually tack it down with invisible thread (for quilting) but I did buy a bottle of Fabric Glue (CraftSmart, Australia) to try.

I use PVA neat. I only use it on items that aren't going to be laundered and very rarely. I always sew in my ends so that they don't need gluing anyway.

I would probably use fray check also, but really sewing the ends in is better. I THINK it was on the Tatting Guru's site that I read that glue will discolor your lace years from now. I also sew tatting on to cards and clothing.

Here is a link to Georgia Seitz on how to handle ends:
